studio.6.sustainability
This semesters work... doesn't really seem that exciting or impressive but it was made from two recycled dresses donated to us by 'Swensk'- a swedish fashion retailer dedicated to 'slow fashion'.
Basically their idea is to stock clothing that is not trend driven therfor it wont go 'out of fashion' and you will not dispose of your clothing seasonally..... sustainability through longevity. we also had to aim for ZERO WASTE of the two donated dresses... anddddd we had a client so we had to design and create something that would fit into their lifestyle- aesthetically and practically. .....
does that all even make sense?? it was a crazy studio, kinda sick of explaining it to be honest--- but felt as though it was necessary to know why it ended out like it did. There was far too much packed into it, everyone felt like they designed and created things that they did not really like.... mine was extremely simple because it needed to be i think... Chloe my client runs a graphic design company so i used the laser cutter to create a pattern on the sleeves...
there are also zips on the lapel which really only adds a desiggn element and also the no watse as there were zips from the backs of the original dresses... anyway your bored and im bored but there it is.

SO.HARDCORE.
ha ha yes i think i have a leather fetish....
hand made leather harnesses, collar and sheer silk top.
DIY
old op-shop bag to groovy backpack
original leather bag
studding the underneath- Alexander wang styLe!
added a leather flap and used the straps make it a backpack (final picture of bag is last picture of the mini collection below) I wanted the long spikes to look like the studs were kind of
dripping from the bag...
i created this shoe accessory to spice my brogues up a bit... and they match the backpack ha ha
SHEER.BLACK.LEATHER.PLEATS.STUDS
At the start of the semester- when i was all inspired from the new sustainability studio brief i had a play around with some op-shop pieces and re created them into garments that i can wear... it was only recently that i realised there are some strong themes im following at the moment (hence the heading) and that they in fact created a mini collection.... excuse the awkwardly modeling :s
All the tops are made from scratch but the accessories and skirts are altered op-shop finds...

PAINTSPLATTER
I have a pair of white jeans that i quite like for summer... however white is not so flattering- so i thought a little paint on them might give them a personal touch and break up the white plain. I have been collecting photos for some time now to get a feel for how i might go about it.

Rodarte

i might do a little collection of paint splattered garments and accessories.... i could line them up and and throw buckts over them or i could put paint in a gun and shoot splatter.... quite excited.
It could look really good or really bad....

Ann Demeulemeester
Androgynous silhouettes, cleaver tailoring and monochromatic colour pallets are all signature looks from the incredible Ann Demeulemeester however her Spring 2009 RTW collection brought feminine unstructured drape jersey dresses, relaxed jackets, splashes of coral/nude and delicate crystal embroidery... it was amazing in every way and re enforces my love for her.. one day i will own something of yours and i will wear it with pride... ha ha.... loser?

wish we were millionaires.
On the weekend we trekked out to Cheltenham to help a friend with a music/video clip... it was in a wacky, original 70's style apartment... Which got us extremely excited and thinking about how we will decorate our future houses/house?? ha ha...
For the clip the band splattered plaint across the whole inner contents of one bedroom.... looked AMAZING!! we liked this idea and decided it would be pretty cool to do this on one wall including the back of the bed and maybe bedside tables that sat against the wall as if it were being engulfed by the paint...
The bathroom wallpaper extended onto the ceiling, covering the cornices and the roof manhole?? Wouldnt this be cool to do over everything- the door, tables, bed, floor, picture frames and lamps ha ha it would be hilarious!!! maybe a little overbearing??
We also loved the use of old empty frames hanging with pot plants on the brick wall in the backyard... Whilst neither of us look as though we will be moving out anytime soon... moneyless and travel occupied, we think and we dream...

LETS CREATE MAGIC
So pumped to start making things... got my big 'shadow' studio presentation tomorrow and cannot and i mean CANNOT wait for it to be overrrrr- isnt that so sad... a semesters worth of work put in and im not really that keen on it... more than a little embarrassed by the 'look book' and in no way confident to present this to a board of teachers and classmates.
ha ha here is a snap shot of my project :s
What aspects of clothing make us feel dressed?
Is it the way we put clothing on?
Is it the feel of having something against our skin?
Is it the way in which clothing covers the body?
Is it the nature of the cloth?
Garments are traditionally worn by single individuals, however in this im project exploring the possibility that garments can be designed for many people to interact within as a group. This form of clothing encourages people to come together and share a unique experience. It questions the boundaries of personal space and the way we react when there is an ‘overlapping’ of each others space.
Can a garment be considered a viable form of dress if it covers the body, is put on in a conventional way but restricts movement and is much larger than the form it covers?
We all have emotional reactions towards the clothing we wear and the environment we are within, how would we feel if we were confined to a certain space and certain actions?
This project explores the point in which personal space becomes external environment and the limitations such clothing could have on our behavior and feelings towards ‘being dressed’.
I have wonderful friends who are always willing to put on a frock and dance around for me to take photos..... thank you- love you!!
